After the 'sunrush': what comes next for solar power?
Perovskite captures energy from a different part of sunlight’s wavelength than silicon, so Oxford PV’s plan is to layer it atop silicon, to maximise electricity generation. A typical silicon-based solar cell converts around 21-22% of sunlight into eneryg, and the material's limit is 29%. Perovskite-on-silicon could improve that up to around 25% and is less energy-intensive to make. Over half of the cost of an installation is the actual installation. | Adam Vaughan, The Guardian
